How to Maintain
Your Sanity in an Upside Down World
by Jim Keelan, A Happy Life
Self Help Book Review
Stop striving for happiness and start happily striving in your happy
life advises Dr. Jim Keelan. From how to induce laughter, to
the essence of humor outside telling jokes, this book has a merry tone.
And, this book can help increase your happiness beyond the humor and
laughter skills. All profits go to a program called Food for
the Poor.
How to Maintain Your Sanity in an Upside Down World is a small, easy
read full of fun and practical advice on how to live with a sense of
humor. According to the author, about 3% of Americans can consistently
remember the punch line of a joke. Clearly, if living with humor
required telling jokes, many of us would be in big trouble. Luckily,
this book is here to help.
What is required for a sense of humor? Jim Keelan says it is
perceptualability- a word he coins to mean the ability to see something
from several points of view at the same time and to be able to shift
our point of view as needed.
The book is full of humorous stories about ordinary people who improved
their lives by doing just that. How To Maintain Your
Sanity in an Upside Down World also has sections on
spiritual aikido and how to laugh. Spiritual aikido is the
ability to adopt different approaches until you find one that works.
The exercises for inducing laughter are really very effective- although
they are best done with a partner or a group.
I first ran across a Jim Keelan book almost 30 years ago. The book was
called BS (Beat Stress) and Live Longer. It was full of the same
wonderful, sunny humor and practical advice. Not only is this book
still on my limited book shelves after 30 years, I find myself going
back to it often for inspiration.
The tips and advice in How to Maintain Your Sanity in an Upside Down
World are absolutely consistent with the latest scientific research,
although there is nothing in this book that looks or feels as serious
as science. Jim certainly practices what he preaches, and
approaches the subject with a light and merry heart and mind.
Finally, this book can help increase your happiness beyond the humor
and laughter skills. All profits from the book go to a program called
Food for the Poor. According to Charity
Navigator, Food
for the Poor is a 4 Star Charity that exceeds industry
standards in efficient management and outperforms most charities in its
cause.
Stop striving for happiness and start happily striving in your happy
life when you learn How to Maintain Your Sanity in an Upside Down
World.
