Happy Life Tip of the Week, Issue #031- Turn to Sweetness October 14, 2009 |
HelloTurn to sweetness when you feel worn out for a happier life.When I was 12, someone told me that if I did not think about something for a long time, my brain cells related to that thing would die. For the longest time, I would think about frogs periodically just to keep the frog brain cells alive. Modern science does not completely support this approach, but it does show that we have patterns of thought that do become habits. When we are in the habit of focusing on our problems, that tends to be all we see. Yet, when we develop the habit of focusing on the good things in life- the sweetness- we tend to see more and more sweetness. Studies have shown that actively cultivating an Attitude of Gratitudefor just 7 days can improve our overall happiness level for several months. Perhaps the most satisfying sweetness in life come from our closest relationships and feeling the love they bring. When we focus on our problems, we start to wonder, where is the love?. Just as life improves when we focus on what we are grateful for, we feel more loved when we focus on finding evidence we are loved.
