Happy Life Tip of the Week, Issue #133- Strength from Happiness
October 12, 2011
Hello Friends,

Laugh and have fun every day for strength in life.

We've got to learn hard things in our lifetime, but it's love that gives you the strength. It's being nice to people and having a lot of fun and laughing harder than anything, hopefully every single day of your life.

Drew Barrymore

The news headlines are full of doom and gloom. There is no question that life can be hard and sad at times. From humanitarian aid groups, to the friends and family that support us, and our own inner strength, it is love that gets us through. Sometimes it is the love of others for us and sometimes it is our own love of others and of life.

So how do we build this reservoir of love in ourselves and in the world? Drew Barrymore suggests that being nice to people is one way. Anna Quindlen in A Short Guide to a Happy Life would agree. In a nutshell, Quindlen's advice for a happy life is to appreciate and enjoy the people in your life while they are with you and to be sure that you have people in your life.

We know intuitively how to be nice to each other. With all the research and new science in this field, one of the best books on how to appreciate the people in our lives on the market today was written almost 100 years ago- Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People. As a testimony to the universality of Carnegie’s advice, this book has been continuously in print since the 1930’s.

Science bears this out. In fact, one of the few life circumstances that consistently correlates with a happy life is a rich network of positive relationships. The science of how to be happy also shows that being nice to others, having fun on a regular basis, and laughter are also important pathways to a happy life.

A happy life is a strong and resilient life. For tips on how to laugh more, you might enjoy this article on how to be silly or try any of these fine books on the new science of happiness.
