From humanitarian aid groups, to the friends and family that support us, and our own inner strength, it is love that gets us through. Sometimes it is the love of others and sometimes it is our own love of others and of life. So how do we build this reservoir of love in ourselves and in the world? Drew Barrymore suggests that being nice to people is one way. Anna Quindlen in A Short Guide to a Happy Life would agree. In a nutshell, Quindlen's advice for a happy life is to appreciate and enjoy the people in your life while they are with you and to be sure that you have people in your life. Science bears this out. In fact, one of the few life circumstances that consistently correlates with a happy life is a rich network of positive relationships. The science of how to be happy also shows that being nice to others, having fun on a regular basis, and laughter are also important pathways to a happy life.
