Happy Life Tip of the Week, Issue #030- Stop Striving for Happiness
October 07, 2009
Hello

Stop Striving for Happiness and Start Happily Striving for a Happy Life

Humor is not about telling jokes, but about versatility, flexibility, and perceptualability. If we are to successfully cope with life, we have to develop a philosophy of life in which humor plays an essential role.

Jim Keelan

I had the pleasure of listening to Jim speak recently. He had about 500 people laughing, slapping their knees and stomping their feet as he laid out the steps to living with a sense of humor. Two key elements of his strategy are perceptualability and spiritual aikido. Perceptualability is the ability to see something from several points of view at once and spiritual aikido is the art of choosing another approach or philosophy for a problem until you find one that works for you.

For example, you could choose to shift from striving to make your dreams come true, to celebrating today as the successful fulfillment of yesterday's dreams.

If you need help developing perceptualability or spiritual aikido, you might want to pick up a copy of Jim's book, How to Maintain Your Sanity in an Upside-Down World. In it you will find at least 4 sure-fire techniques for inducing laughter. All profits from the book go to the group Food for the Poor, so your money helps build happiness in two ways- providing you with humor advice and helping others.

However you choose to go about it:

Stop Striving for Happiness and Start Happily Striving for a Happy Life

Affirmation

I enjoy striving towards my dreams. I keep a light heart, a flexible mind and a strong sense of humor.

Journal or Meditation Question

Pick a situation or problem that is bothering you, then ask these questions. How would this look from the opposite point of view? How many different ways of seeing this problem can I think of? Is there any fun here?

Happiness is Contagious.
