Happy Life Tip of the Week, Issue #054-Spring Into Action
March 24, 2010
Hello

Spring into action for a happy life.

Action may not always bring happiness,
but there is no happiness without action.

Benjamin Disraeli

When applying this tip to your life, there is the obvious place to start- physical movement. Even something as simple as taking three deep breaths that fill your lungs and your diaphragm can increase the level of endorphins- the happiness chemicals- produced by your body.

Action also helps reduce worry. Life is uncertain and that can work for us. The worst case scenario you worry about has not happened yet. What can you do to reduce the probability that it will? Or failing that, what can you do to soften the blow when it does come? Once you have a plan- take action aimed at getting you the best possible outcome. Often just moving out of worry a little increases your happiness levels enough to help you see better solutions.

And, action itself causes happiness when it involves practicing one of your core strengths. A strength is something that you are good at, enjoy doing, and learn quickly. When we use our strengths in some kind of challenge we create a state of flow- a kind of happiness where we lose ourselves in the thrill of the challenge. When we are in flow, criticism turns into feedback that we use to adjust our performance to increase the score.

Help us improve our performance on Tip of the Week and take our survey. Let us know how we can make the Tip of the Week and Happy Life University even better for you at http://www.happylifeu.com/Tip-of-the-Week-Survey.html.
