Happy Life Tip of the Week, Issue #112-Oridinary Day May 11, 2011 |
Cherish your ordinary days now because they are they are the days that make your happy life.when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy the ice cream while it's on your plate. From the Play, Our Town In the play, Our Town, one of the main characters dies and goes to heaven where she learns she can go back and relive just one day of her life. After thought and consultation with the other loved ones in heaven, she chooses her 12th birthday because it was just a happy, ordinary day. In the course of reliving her day she realizes how precious the time was and how little she, or any of the other living people, recognized the value of the time they had together. Instead, they fussed over things that really did not matter. I was reminded of this play this past week when I was talking to a friend whose friend lost her teen aged daughter in a car accident just the day before. My friend said all she wanted to do was spend an ordinary day at home with her daughter just being together and doing normal daily things. Maybe they would plant flowers and do yard work, or watch a movie together or just hang out and talk. I often set the goal of having an Our Town Day. I decide to go about my regular, ordinary day noticing and savoring every little joy, every taste, every sensation, and every exchange of love. I try to mark that day as one I might choose to revisit if I ever find myself in heaven with the opportunity to revisit just one day of my life. Years later, I often find that I can still recall some of the special moments of these days. As I cherish the memory of these days, I also add a strand to the rope of love that binds me to the people in these memories.
