Hello Friends,

There are many great traditional ways to start the New Year- parties, fireworks, singing Auld Lang Syne, and kissing someone. When it comes to happiness, they all serve the purpose of ending the old year and starting the new one a good note.

Research has shown that how we feel about the end of something influences our memories of it more than our feelings during the event. If 2010 was a painful or difficult year for you, and the pain has lifted now, taking care to create happy memories for the last few days and for New Year's Eve can help you see the year more positively which can help you recover faster or find the silver lining in what has happened.

Starting the New Year with hope and optimism increases the chances that you will find a way to make the next year a good one.

It turns out that our traditions are based in happy wisdom because being with other people who are in a festive mood, even people you do not know, usually lifts our spirits. After all, happiness is contagious. In fact the word, celebration comes from the Latin celeber which means numerous or thronged. Singing, particularly in a group, also raises our spirits and connects us to the other singers as we pay attention to each other to harmonize and match tempo.

But perhaps the most powerful happiness booster for the stroke of midnight is the kiss. A good kiss with someone you love and match chemistry with pulls you into the moment, into your senses and out of your chaotic thoughts, and give you a big boost of happiness hormones according to kissing researcher Sheril Kirshenbaum. It also strengthens your relationship with another human being- a powerful happiness booster for the year to come.

So, do make a point to stay up late and celebrate the New Year with other people if you can. Then,-
