If Swine Flew You Can Too!

To sit patiently with a yearning that has not yet been fulfilled, and to trust that, that fulfillment will come, is quite possibly one of the most powerful "magic skills" that human beings are capable of. It has been noted by almost every ancient wisdom tradition.

Hope, to yearn and trust that fulfillment will come, is the essence of optimism. Optimism, a skill that we can learn, is magic. Optimistic people are not distracted by fear, uncertainty and doubt,(FUD) but stay focused on what they want to happen- what they hope for. The inspiration for this Happy Life Tip of the week came from a newsletter by Dr. Emmett Miller who said, people said that a black man would be president of the United States when pigs fly and in his first 100 days, Barack Obama, a black American President is dealing with swine flu. He goes on to talk about how FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) can lead us to actions with more negative consequences than the thing we fear. FUD is the opposite of optimism. But, when we are surrounded by FUD in the news, we have to work even harder to keep our spirits and our hopes alive. Remember- We are worth the effort.
