Ask yourself how to stop worrying and be happy.

Don't worry, Be Happy

Meher Baba

Hello Friends,
Even the happiest among us occasionally have days when we have to work at being happy. Just today, I had such a day. Nothing tragic or even significant happened to put me in a funk, just an accumulation of minor, unpleasant events. As I removed the second parking ticket of the day from my car I asked myself- what would I advise someone else to do? Here is what I told myself.
  1. b>Let it go and have some fun. Sometimes the little slings and arrows of life are just that- little. Not every problem has to be solved, or every wrong righted. Go ahead and be silly just for the fun of it.
  2. Remember you are loved and cared for. People do not always love us the way we want to be loved- sometimes they have their own way of showing it. I sometimes challenge myself to think of all the nice things people said to me in a difficult day, every smile, every little favor someone did, every well meaning gesture. It may be more natural to list the slights, but listing the compliments feels better and is worth the effort.
  3. Research something. For example, I thought the quote today came from the song by Bobby McFarrin, but it turns out the real story is more interesting. Check it out yourself on Wikipedia. There are so many great stories and cheery resources on the internet. You can find some of my favorite short and cheery videos at the Happy Life U Movie Review Page.
I hope you find some of these suggestions helpful. And remember, the most powerful of all the techniques I shared with you today is the technique of asking yourself a question. The human brain likes to solve problems and we engage that problem solving machine by asking it a question. So the next time you have a less than perfect day, -

Ask yourself how to stop worrying and be happy.

Affirmation
I ask myself questions to get my own good advice. I know how to be happy. I know how to stop worry.

Journal or Meditation Question
How could I stop worrying and be happier? How could I ask myself more questions when I am working on a problem? How could I support someone else by asking them a question rather than telling them what to do?
