Happy Life Tip of the Week, Issue #138- Celebrate Just Living
November 17, 2011
Hello Friends,

Celebrate just living and make every day a holiday.

Celebrate the happiness that friends are always giving,
make every day a holiday and celebrate just living!

Amanda Bradley

The word holiday comes from the old English for holy day. In these modern times, the word has come to mean an exemption from work. As our lives become more hectic and more integrated, it is often hard to separate work from play- regular days from holidays. Yet many forms of happiness require awareness and mindfulness- something we often loose when work and play fuse together.

You can increase your happiness when you consciously reconnect with the meaning behind the holidays - the importance or holiness of the day. Even if you do not think of yourself as religious, you can connect with meaning. As Amanda Bradley suggests, the joy and happiness that comes with having friends is a special gift worthy of celebration. Or, as anyone who has ever been in a life threatening situation and survived can tell you, just living is a cause for celebration.

Another way to celebrate living is to focus on your friends or family and enjoying their company. Friends spread happiness to each other just as Amanda Bradley suggests. Being silly, singing and dancing are also good ways to make a celebration from everyday life.

A third approach to celebrating life is gratitude. Many scientists believe that the fastest way to happiness is an attitude of gratitude. You might try these Thanksgiving party games to get the gratitude ball rolling and enjoy the company of others. Or, use something that gives you a regular reminder of the things you love like the Wisdom of Sunflowers Calendar. These make great hostess gifts for Thanksgiving or any holiday party, by the way.

Whatever approach you use, with conscious thought, you can…

Celebrate just living and make every day a holiday.

Affirmation I am glad to be alive. Every time I see my happy friends, I celebrate the importance of the day as a holiday.

Journal or Meditation Question What do I do to make holidays special and meaningful. How can I make everyday a holiday in the true sense of the word. What do I have to celebrate?
