Hello,
Proportion Ambition to Capacity
for a Happy Life
The perfection of wisdom, and the end of true philosophy is to proportion our wants to our possessions, our ambitions to our capacities, we will then be a happy and a virtuous people.
Mark Twain
We will be happy and virtuous when we want what we have and aim for what we can reach. This sounds like just the opposite of what we most often hear. We are told to Aim High, Shoot for the Stars and you may reach the moon, or Be Bold. How do we resolve this paradox?
A recent review of happiness research shows that we have a choice. Happy people do make a little less, have fewer advanced degrees, and fewer high status positions than moderately happy people. However, they live longer, have more friends, and spend more time helping in their community. Moderately happy people do not get happier for their higher material success.
How do you change tracks if you are successful enough and want to be happier? Scientific research suggests that you can make the change just by refocusing your goals. First, you focus your goals to be in line with your values of peace, love and happiness . Next, you consciously choose your expectations to match your capabilities .
